We're letting the cat out of the bag:
A Broken Winter is currently undergoing the final negotiations for a rock opera under the title
Irihi. After the success of
Repo! The Genetic Opera, Army of Darkness, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and
Young Frankenstein, themes of the occult and gore aren't new. Executive Producer Neil Gaiman states, "
Irihi will be unique in that all the actors will be renown vocalists with the sole exception of Ewan (McGreggor), who will be playing the older Kokkan. That's where a lot of musicals go wrong--they get actors who are talentless hacks trying to sing out of their range. (We're) doing something different this time. It's not going to just be another bastardization of
The Vampire Lestat, there will be no Elton John, no
Lion King on Broadway." Besides Ewan McGreggor, who simply said, "it's even more fucked up than
Moulin Rouge," the rock opera will feature the talents of John Partridge as Kuroda, Thom Yorke as Reisen, Björk as Kuroda's wife, and Justin Bieber as young Kokkan. The rest of the cast list has not been announced, but Gaiman hints that
Torchwood fans might want to keep their eyes open, and that there might be cameos by team
ABW.
I'd say more, but Kale would rip my throat out, so let's just say that a certain someone might be dying in scene two!

The release date is tentatively scheduled for June 15, 2012.
